Reels invites you to create fun videos to share with your friends or anyone on Instagram. Record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools.
- What Is Instagram Reels? Reel is a feature of Instagram that allows users to create short videos between 15 and 30 seconds in length. In addition to recording short clips, Instagram Reels also lets users edit, remix, add effects and audio to their reels. With Instagram Reels, you can now create and watch short, entertaining videos anytime.
What is the point of a reel on Instagram?
Instagram Reels is a content format that allows you to create and share short engaging videos that — unlike Instagram Stories — don’t disappear after 24 hours. Despite originally being criticized as a “TikTok copycat,” Instagram Reels has gained positive responses from influencers, brands and users.
What is the difference between a reel and a video on Instagram?
A Post is a regular video that you share to your profile, and it shows up in your followers’ main feeds. A Reel is the relatively new short-form video feature that mimics TikTok’s platform. It allows for a video that’s up to 60 seconds long made up of a single clip or multiple clips edited together.
What is the difference between Instagram reel and story?
The Story is a concept that allows you to tell the story of your day using video, photo or a post, as much as you want for 24 hours. The Reel remains a creativity-driven single video that will be displayed in the feed as a post (which you can share as a Story as you would a post).
How do I make a reel on Instagram?
Here is how:
- Go into the Reels creation screen and tap on the photo square in the bottom left corner of your screen.
- Select one or more videos to create your Reel.
- Edit the length of each video, one by one until you have reached the 15 second maximum time.
- Then click the back arrow to watch the whole video.

Your Reel goes under your Reels tab, shows up in your main profile grid, in Feeds, and under the Explore button. Thus, it gives you an opportunity to attract a new audience.
Should I post my reel to my story?
Just like with posts and IGTV videos, I recommend sharing your Reels to stories using the share button (the little paper airplane under your Reel) to get more people to see it.
Can someone see if you watch their Instagram reel?
Similar to IGTV, you’ll be able to see who has liked and commented on your video as well as how many times your video has been viewed, but you cannot see who has viewed your Instagram Reel. Unlike Instagram Stories, the feature doesn’t track who watches your video.
Who sees your reels?
People may see your reels on places like the Reels tab and effect, hashtag and audio pages. Anyone on Instagram can record a reel using your original audio. For private accounts: Only your approved followers can see and share your reels. When someone shares your reel, only your followers will be able to see it.
Can I delete reels from Instagram?
Tap or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile. Tap below your profile info. Tap the reel you want to delete then tap (iPhone) or (Android) at the bottom. Tap Delete, then tap Delete to confirm.
